FordonsGas to deliver liquefied biomethane to the Port of Gothenburg

  • News

Fordonsgas, an Air Liquide company, and Swedegas, Sweden’s gas grid owner, have signed a long term agreement to deliver liquefied biomethane for maritime transport. Bunkering liquefied biomethane is now possible on a daily basis for shipping companies at the Port of Gothenburg.

Maritime transport is a source of global warming and needs to switch from oil to more environmentally friendly alternatives. Liquefied biomethane is one of the clean alternative solutions to reduce CO2 emissions by 90% and particulates emissions by 85%. Traditionally used for road freight transport, biomethane is a reliable solution for maritime transport as well.

FordonsGas, an Air Liquide company, is Sweden's only producer of liquefied biomethane, and through the agreement with Swedegas, has now access to the bunkering facility to provide shipping companies with this renewable fuel. The liquefied biomethane that will be delivered at the harbour is produced regionally by FordonsGas, thanks to Air Liquide’s proprietary technologies in Lidköping, just 130 kilometers away from Gothenburg.
