Air Liquide inaugurates landfill biomethane production plant in U.S.

Air Liquide holds a ribbon cutting ceremony for the grand opening of its landfill gas (LFG) to renewable gas (RNG) purification plant in Walnut, Mississippi.

Air Liquide, world leader in biogas purification, was joined today by stakeholders, local officials and members of the community to inaugurate a biomethane production plant in Walnut, Mississippi. The new biomethane production plant is located in the Northeast Mississippi Landfill (NEML) site, which is owned by Northeast Mississippi Solid Waste Management Authority, and operated by Waste Connections, Inc., a national solid waste company.

This is the first large-scale biomethane production plant designed and built by Air Liquide in the United States. The biomethane plant purifies household waste gas provided by the landfill and converts it into a renewable natural gas that is reintroduced back into the energy grid to provide renewable energy for surrounding communities. Air Liquide is developing innovative technologies that span the entire biomethane value chain and currently operates 10 biomethane production units worldwide. In April 2018, Air Liquide announced it doubled its global biomethane production capacity, and decided over the last four years around 100 million euros in strategic investments including for the new NEML site.
